The new Arbitration Law was approved on December 31, 2013, which governs National and International Arbitration in Panama.
On July 8, 1999 the first law specialized in arbitration, conciliation and mediation of the country was approved (Decree Law 5 of 1999). Since then, the Decree Law was object of several claims of unconstitutionality which made that part of articles 7, 17 and 36 of such text to be declared unconstitutional.
However, in year 2006, in light of Constitutional Amendments of year 2004, Law 15 of that year was approved, my means of which rules of Decree Law 5 of 1999 are restituted, amended and added rules to the Decree Law 5 of 1999, among them those that had been declared unconstitutional.
